Kino Kunstmuseum: Film and art

The Kino Kunstmuseum offers a varied and cinematically demanding programme. Topical series, work viewings and retrospectives of distinguished filmmakers are as much part of the concept as are films relevant to the current exhibitions in the Museum of Fine Arts. Art and film encounter each other in this cinema, unique of its kind in Bern.

The film selection is directed towards the goal of conveying film history, presenting new directions in style and trends and honouring unique film artists as well as topicalizing specific film epochs. One of the particular aims of the cinema is also to make domestic films available to a larger public and to encourage them. A month is devoted to each topic.

The  Kino Kunstmuseum  is housed in the museum but is independently privately maintained by Cinéville. The Kino Kunstmuseum collaborates with various institutions from the fields of culture, education, politics and society and is dedicated to the cultivation of a diversified cinematic culture distinct from the mainstream.

Outside the opening hours there is the possibility of renting the cinema premises (please see our terms and conditions in the programme of the Kino Kunstmuseum or on the cinema’s own website www.kinokunstmuseum.ch).
In the foyer of the Kino Kunstmuseum is the Kino-Bar which opens half an hour before the film starts. Here you can enjoy the anticipation of the film with snacks and drinks.
