Public guided tour with the curator in English Teruko Yokoi. Tokyo–New York–Paris–Bern

The monographic exhibition portrays the history of an exceptionally vibrant and dynamic woman artist, who developed her art in the shadow of various pivotal artists of the twentieth century. The show follows Teruko Yokoi on her path in life between Tokyo, New York, Paris and settling in Bern, highlighting the peaks of her artistic career from the mid-1950s to the late 1960s.

Yokoi redefined her artistic language during this period against a background of tension between modern abstraction und Japanese tradition. Her works not only testify to her tremendous creative energy but also simultaneously reflect – in the artist’s inner conflict between Orient and Occident – the postwar debates on modern art.
