Image requests

The photo archive of the Kunstmuseum Bern contains a large number of images of works from our collection. For image requests, please use the form provided below. The following terms of use and reproduction apply.

  • The Kunstmuseum Bern makes images of works from its photo archive available in its Online Catalogue [link to Online Catalogue] as part of its cultural and scholarly mission. These images and work data are provided exclusively for information, research, and private use. Public or commercial use is permitted only with the prior written consent of the Kunstmuseum Bern.

With the exception of works in the public domain, copyright in the images and texts belongs solely to the rights holders indicated. Downloading or copying content, images, photographs, or other files does not entail any transfer of rights. The use of tools that systematically or automatically retrieve, index, and/or transmit content from the Online Catalogue (e.g. spiders, crawlers, etc.) is prohibited. The museum’s logo may not be used under any circumstances without prior consent.

Copyright-protected works are marked with a © copyright notice. As the copyrights do not rest with the Kunstmuseum Bern, any reproduction, transmission (electronically or otherwise), modification, linking, or use of these images (in whole or in part) requires the written consent of the copyright holders (listed after the ©…). Users are responsible for clarifying these copyright issues and paying any fees.

Please note that in the case of three-dimensional works such as sculptures and installations, image rights are also held by the photographers. Users are responsible for clearing these rights as well.

  • The material supplied may only be used for the agreed purpose.

    • Any use, exploitation, reproduction, distribution, or publication of the supplied material is subject to fees [link to tariff regulations] and requires the prior express approval of the museum. The ordering party bears full responsibility for any use of the image material in breach of contract.
    • Usage rights are granted only upon payment of the agreed fee. Until then, they remain with the museum. Orders from abroad are processed only upon advance payment. Passing on the image material or usage rights to third parties is not permitted. Usage rights are non-transferable. If the granted usage right is not exercised within two years, it expires.
    • Modifications of copyright-protected works are not permitted. The supplied image may not be altered in any way.
    • Any third-party rights must be clarified and remunerated by the ordering party. The Kunstmuseum Bern does not guarantee the availability of such rights.
  • The fee schedule of the Kunstmuseum Bern photo archive governs all costs. Information about applicable fees is available upon request.
